Carbide-tipped Forstner Bits: Carbide-tipped forstner bits were designed so the rim remains extremely sharp, especially at the leading edge. It is here that the rim stays engaged in the cut so the bit won’t drift laterally. This prevents tearout at the beginning of the cut to give a smooth clean cut. The finished hole will show a small center hole at the bottom of the hole.
Forstner Bits: Especially designed to drill flat holes in softwoods and hardwoods using portable or stationary equipment. Forstner Bits are good at drilling severe angles and for partial angled holes. All off-angled and overlapping holes cut with a forstner bit should be drilled on a drill press.
